Here is a link to the version of this assignment which is on the MAESTRO 2017 Journal Prompts WordPress site.
And here is a link to a fast introduction to some basics of HTML which could be useful for this assignment.
Major Assignment 2 for CIS 291 is to add some non-WordPress pages to your website.
The first step was done in class, when you made a new sub-directory blog of your public_html directory, cloned your WordPress site into blog, and deleted the original copy of your WordPress site (which was usually in journal, but not always: some students had it in Journal, or journals, or even at the root of your domain).
[Please note that a few students did not put their WordPress clone in blog(maybe they used Blog or the root of their domain) — those students must definitely clone again and put their sites on blog!]
The next step is to get a good "landing page" on the root of your domain. This should have
Next make at least three other HTML pages, which should each have links back to your landing page and there should be ways to get to them from your landing page. Somewhere in those pages use at least 8 the following features:
Please also find some other web-based stylistic feature that you want
to use - maybe something from another web site that you like, or
something you wish you could figure out how to do - not mentioned
above, and use it on your web site. Ask your instructor for help in
doing any of the above and/or just use your favorite search engine with
a phrase like
Last part of this second assignment is to use the Installotron on Reclaim Hosting's cPanel to install some other piece of interesting software that does something you think it would be fun to have on your website. There will be installation instructions that come with whatever software you choose that you should be able to follow - make absolutely sure that you don't install the new software on top of something you have already built (like your WordPress site or the basic HTML pages you have written); the way to be sure of this is to make a subdirectory of public_html into which you will install the new thing.
There are many possible choices for this part of the assignment, look in the cPanel. Some things you might consider are
If the new software you have installed requires you, as the site owner/administrator to create accounts for people to use, please create an account for your instructor and email him the name, password, and other info he needs to try out what you built.
Write a Journal entry in your WordPress site explaining
Also put a link to the starting page for that newly installed software somewhere in the HTML pages you put at the root of your website.
Note also that you do need to keep current on putting versions of everything you write for all of your MAESTRO classes on your website … but now they may be in whatever form you like. You should definitely keep the morning English class writing prompt responses as Posts in your WordPress site, but you can keep other writings wherever you like: Posts or Pages in WordPress, HTML pages on your basic site, in some other form (wiki pages...) if you like.
