Test II Review Sheet for
Colorado State University, Pueblo
Math 109 — Number Theory —
Spring 2014
Definitions
Terms you should know -- be able to state clearly what they mean, recognize
them in examples, and create your own examples of them
- population/sample
- bias
- response rate
- volunteer sample bias
- simple random sample
- stratified sample
- parameter/statistic
- control
- placebo, placebo effect
- blind, double blind
- quantitative/categorical Random Variable (RV)
- pie chart
- data set
- frequency counts
- bar graph
- histogram
- class intervals ("bins")
- measures of the "center" of your data: mean, median
- measures of the "spread" of your data: range, IQR, standard deviation
- quartiles: Q1, Q2, Q3
- five number summary
- box (or "box-and-whisker") plots
- outliers -- the "1.5IQR Rule"
- variance
- "sensitive to outliers"
- percentiles
Things to know how to do
- Basically, do (and explain!) any of the assigned homwork from Chapters 13
& 14.
- Explain, use, and compute any of the terms mentioned above, including:
- Make the appropriate graphs (pie charts, histograms).
- Discuss sources of bias in experimental designs.
- Calculate any measure of center or spread for give data.
Format of the test
There will be several problems from both chapters, of a level of difficulty and
wording similar to the problems which you have done for homework. The total
points for the chapter will be more than 100, you can choose which 100 points
you want to do out of the available problems.
